Wazirabad: Two suspects accused of robbery managed to escape police custody from the premises of the Wazirabad Sessions Court, ARY News reported.
According to police, the suspects, identified as Amir Hamza and Gulfam, were brought to the court for a hearing. However, due to the negligence of the on-duty officers, the suspects fled the court premises while still in handcuffs.
The suspects, who were booked for robbery, were to be transferred to Central Jail after their court appearance by Ahmed Nagar Police Station personnel.
In response to the incident, a case has been registered against three police officials, including a sub-inspector, at the Thana Sadar. Additionally, departmental action has been initiated against the negligent officers.
This incident comes just two months after a prisoner involved in serious crimes escaped from Karachi’s Malir Jail. Following the escape, the DIG Prisons suspended seven jail officials for their failure to prevent the incident.
The suspended officials included Mehm Dain, Khadim Hussain, Akram, Waheed, Qaim Khan, Shehzado, and Nadeem, according to a directive issued by the DIG.
In the Malir Jail escape, the prisoner—arrested by SITE Super Highway Police in a kidnapping case—used a makeshift rope and cut through an iron grille in the bathroom to scale the wall and escape.
