Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) and a member of the National Assembly, has appealed to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to delay its planned civil disobedience movement. Speaking to the media, Achakzai emphasized the importance of negotiations with the government, stating that if the issues can be resolved through dialogue, it would be the best possible outcome. However, he acknowledged that if talks fail, a movement may be necessary.
Achakzai advised PTI to focus on defining the terms of engagement in negotiations, particularly regarding when the government should step down. He further expressed that the success of negotiations could pave the way for holding elections within four months.
In a separate discussion, Achakzai highlighted the challenges faced due to the lack of clarity in PTI’s decision-making, which, according to him, had resulted in setbacks for the opposition. During a recent opposition alliance meeting, he stressed that uncoordinated actions were less effective than organized protests at the district level. He also pointed out the absence of a clear strategy for securing the release of PTI’s leadership.
PTI’s founder and chairman, Imran Khan, had earlier announced that the party would begin a civil disobedience movement across the country starting on December 14. PTI leaders have made it clear that if negotiations with the government fail, they will proceed with the movement as planned.
