Pakistan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to address pending financial obligations.
According to details, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) Director General Nadir Shafi Dar confirmed the signing. He hailed it as a “positive step” towards resuming flights to the US, which have remained suspended since 2017.
Speaking to the media, Nadir Shafi Dar remarked, “We are preparing to clear the relevant fee payments to the FAA soon. This agreement lays the groundwork for addressing financial issues and achieving compliance.” He further noted that an FAA delegation is expected to visit Pakistan by February or March, marking a potential shift in Pakistan’s aviation rating from Category 2 back to Category 1.
According to a spokesperson from the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), flights to the US were halted in 2017. Prior to the suspension, PIA operated six weekly flights to the US, including four to New York and two to Chicago.
