The Power Division has written letters to the provincial chief ministers regarding delays in the payment of outstanding electricity bills across the country.
In the letter authored by Federal Minister Owais Leghari, it was highlighted that the Ministry of Energy has initiated reforms aimed at providing affordable electricity to consumers. These reforms focus on increasing financial resources, curbing electricity theft, and ensuring the recovery of outstanding dues from consumers.
The Power Division urged the chief ministers to ensure immediate payment of pending electricity dues, stressing that the non-payment is hindering ongoing reforms in the energy sector. According to the letter, various provincial departments have been negligent in clearing their electricity bills, causing financial strain on power companies and potentially disrupting the uninterrupted supply of electricity.
Federal Minister Owais Leghari appealed to the chief ministers for immediate intervention, emphasizing that the failure to address these dues is exacerbating the circular debt crisis. The letter also expressed hope that provincial governments would cooperate with the federal government to ensure stability in the energy sector.
