Islamabad (NNI): Federal Minister for Planning, Development, Reforms, and Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, has emphasized the importance of understanding Allama Iqbal’s developmental vision for achieving national progress. He called for aligning educational curricula at both basic and advanced levels with Iqbal’s teachings to familiarize the younger generation with his philosophy.
Speaking at a debate on “Iqbal’s Developmental Vision” on Thursday, Ahsan Iqbal noted that Pakistan was an economically stable country until 1999 but lagged behind due to political instability and a lack of continuity in policies. He stressed that Iqbal’s concept of nationhood was instrumental in the creation of Pakistan.
Highlighting Iqbal’s philosophy of Khudi (selfhood), the minister said it calls for building a self-reliant, sovereign, and economically strong nation. “Iqbal was not merely a mystical or religious poet and philosopher; his revolutionary poetry advocates for a progressive and enlightened society,” he added.
Iqbal’s philosophy, he stated, encourages breaking free from stagnation and embracing the path of innovation and Ijtihad (reasoned interpretation). Ahsan Iqbal argued that implementing Iqbal’s teachings can unify the nation and help achieve sustainable development.
He reiterated the need to incorporate Iqbal’s vision into the educational system to inspire the younger generation and drive national progress.
