Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) initiative, aiming to achieve zero waste across the province within three months.
The launch event, held at Expo Center Lahore, featured an exhibition of modern waste management equipment, including loaders, trucks, spray machines, road washers, and electric bikes.
During the event, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inspected the equipment and interacted with sanitation staff, commending their efforts in maintaining cleanliness.
Provincial Minister for Local Government, Zeeshan Rafiq, provided details of the initiative, highlighting that Punjab generates approximately 60,000 tons of waste daily, but previously only 20,000 tons were collected. He assured attendees that under this program, “No garbage will be visible in Lahore anymore.”
He further emphasized that waste identified in any area must be cleared within a few hours, failing which the responsible waste management company will face penalties.
The launch ceremony was attended by the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, provincial ministers, members of the assembly, and other dignitaries.
