Islamabad: In a case registered at New Town police station in Islamabad, Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah held a hearing at Adiala Jail and granted 5-day physical remand of PTI founder Imran Khan, handed him over to New Town police and ordered him to be produced in court again on November 26.
Special Public Prosecutor Zaheer Shah had requested 15-day physical remand of PTI founder, while the PTI founder’s lawyers had filed a petition to discharge Imran Khan from the New Town police station case.
Lawyers Barrister Salman Safdar, Muhammad Faisal Malik, Ali Bukhari and Faisal Chaudhry appeared on behalf of the PTI founder. They gave arguments for rejecting the request for physical remand and lawyer Salman Safdar requested to discharge him from the said case registered at New Town police station.
The prosecutor, opposing the arguments of the PTI founder’s lawyers, argued for granting physical remand, saying that despite the imposition of Section 144 on Imran Khan’s call, the protesters attacked government property, while the PTI founder planned and called for the September 28 protest while sitting in Adiala Jail.
A few hours after the court’s decision, the PTI founder was arrested in another case registered at the New Town police station. This case is registered under other sections including arson, encirclement, resistance to police, damage to property and terrorism.
Imran Khan’s lawyer Suleman Safdar said in his arguments that the case against the PTI founder is a political vendetta and the text recorded in the case is based on assumptions. How can he plan if he has been in prison for one and a half years? Therefore, he should be discharged from the case.
The court, while rejecting the request to discharge the PTI founder from the case, granted Imran Khan a five-day physical remand and directed him to be interrogated inside the jail.
It should be noted that yesterday, the Islamabad High Court had granted bail to Imran Khan in the Toshakhana Case-II and ordered his immediate release.
