In a significant move, the Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) government has introduced trekking fees for Pakistani mountaineers and revised the permit fees for international climbers. The new fee structure, announced by the G-B Tourism, Sports, Culture, Archaeology & Museum Department, aims to regulate and manage the growing number of climbers and trekkers in the region while promoting local tourism.
Revised Permit Fees for International Climbers
The permit fee for foreign climbers to ascend K2, the world’s second-highest peak, has been set at 5,000 during the peak summer season (April to September), 1,500 in the winter (December to March).
New Fee Structure for Pakistani Climbers
Pakistani climbers will now face a new fee structure, with charges set at Rs100,000 for the summer, Rs50,000 for autumn, and Rs30,000 for winter. Group permits for Pakistani nationals will cost Rs30,000. This marks a significant change, as previously, trekking fees were only applicable to foreign trekkers.
Trekking Fees for Foreigners and Pakistanis
Foreign trekking groups will now pay 300 during the peak season. Pakistani trekkers will also be required to pay trekking fees, a move aimed at promoting local tourism and managing the influx of trekkers in the region.
