Karachi’s traffic police have issued a comprehensive diversion plan as the city hosts two significant Chup Tazia processions today, resulting in key road closures and traffic rerouting. The processions, held annually on the 8th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Askari and mark the end of the mourning period that began in Muharram.

To ensure a smooth and safe experience for participants and commuters, several roads have been closed, and alternate routes designated. The first procession, which started at 6:30 am from Nishtar Park, passed through major roads like MA Jinnah Road, Capri, and Saddar Dawakhana before concluding at Noor Bagh, Musafir Khana, in Moosa Lane at 11 am.

Traffic diversions are in place to minimize disruptions. Vehicles from Gurumandir Chowk are being diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road in Soldier Bazaar, while those from Nazimabad are being rerouted through Lasbela Chowk. Traffic from Liaquatabad is diverted to Teen Hatti, heading towards Lasbela Chowk, and commuters from Garden heading to MA Jinnah Road are being redirected to Gul Plaza via Anklesaria Hospital.

The second procession will commence from Rizvia Society at 1 pm, heading towards Imam Bargah Shah-E-Najaf on Martin Road. Security measures are in place, with the stretch between Water Pump and Karimabad Flyover closed, and Altaf Hussain Barelvi Road shut down between Bara Board and Gujjar Nala Crossing. Traffic from Karimabad Chowk is being diverted to Moosa Colony.

Commuters are advised to follow the specified diversions and plan their travel accordingly. The processions are expected to conclude around 4 pm, with traffic resuming to normal after that.
