The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken swift action against a mayonnaise factory in Lahore’s Mehar pura area, shutting it down due to gross violations of health and safety regulations. The factory was fined Rs 100,000 and 600 kg of substandard mayonnaise was seized for destruction.
The PFA’s Director General, Asim Javed, highlighted several alarming issues, including:
- Untrained staff without medical certificates
- Poor personal hygiene
- Malfunctioning freezer
- Fungal-covered walls
- Unsanitary restroom in the processing area
- Use of prohibited color additives
- Non-food grade blue drums for storage
A case was filed against the owner for misleading labeling, leading to the factory’s closure. Asim Javed emphasized that the PFA will not tolerate violations of food safety principles and warned that any food or ingredients posing health risks will be banned.
