Ahsan Iqbal, a government minister, has reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the issues plaguing the power sector within a year or two. Addressing a press conference, Iqbal criticized the leadership of Imran Khan, the former prime minister and PTI founder, calling him a “novice” who has caused irreparable damage to the country.
Iqbal blamed Imran Khan’s incompetence for the current state of the power sector, citing his inability to effectively manage the country’s resources. He emphasized the need for a robust local bodies’ system to address the issues faced by the power sector.
The minister also accused PTI leaders of seeking an “NRO” (a reference to a political deal), stating that they will not receive one. He claimed that those who had asked PML-N leaders to provide receipts had now themselves failed to do so.
In a separate development, Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister and PML-N leader, announced that the government will now provide relief to industrial consumers. This move is aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the industrial sector, which has been severely affected by the power crisis.
Iqbal also took a jibe at Imran Khan’s living conditions in prison, stating that he is enjoying luxurious facilities unlike PML-N leaders who were denied facilities during their imprisonment. He said, “He is having a great time there.”
The government’s commitment to resolving the power sector issues is a welcome move, but it remains to be seen whether they can deliver on their promises. The power sector has been a long-standing issue in Pakistan, and any progress in this regard will be a significant achievement.
