Traders across Pakistan will observe a nationwide shutterdown strike on August 28, protesting the government’s refusal to withdraw the controversial Tajir Dost Scheme and address key issues. The strike follows two months of fruitless negotiations with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Traders Association President Kashif Chaudhry announced that traders will not deposit advance tax under the scheme until it is abolished. He emphasized that negotiations will end if the government fails to issue a notification by August 28 evening.
The strike has gained widespread support from traders, industrialists, political parties, and the general public, who stand against the government’s “oppressive policies.” Millions are expected to join the protest, united against perceived governmental abuse and economic mismanagement.
