Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the need to end the digital divide between rural and urban areas in Pakistan. Speaking at the ‘Digital Nation Summit’, she highlighted the importance of digital transformation and the role of the telecom industry in the country’s economic growth.
Khawaja noted progress in digitalization, including over 80% tele-density and 190 million subscribers, and announced initiatives to boost ICT, including the National IT Policy and digital skills training for youth. She also emphasized the importance of digital gender inclusion.
GSMA’s Julian Gorman commended Pakistan’s potential to become a digital nation, stressing the need to scale the connected population and adopt a whole-of-government approach to unlock its full digital potential.
