A significant breakthrough was achieved by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Karachi, as a notorious terrorist affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed in a shootout. The operation was conducted in the jurisdiction of the Mochko police station, acting on a tip-off about suspicious terrorist activity near the Hanfia mosque.

The CTD team, acting swiftly, raided the location and encountered the suspect, who opened fire to avoid arrest. In the ensuing exchange, the terrorist was wounded and later succumbed to his injuries due to excessive blood loss during transit to the hospital. A 9mm pistol was recovered from the terrorist, and a police officer’s bulletproof vest was struck by a bullet, leaving him unharmed.

The deceased terrorist was identified as Umar Farooq, also known as Faridullah or Dr. Umar, a 35-year-old fugitive. Farooq was the mastermind behind the Karachi Police Office (KPO) attack and the Abbas Town bomb blast, which had resulted in significant loss of life and property. He was involved in various terrorism cases from 2013 to 2014 and had been imprisoned for 10 cases but was later acquitted and fled to Afghanistan.

Farooq had been organizing a terrorist network in Karachi, and his neutralization is a significant blow to the terrorist organization’s plans. The CTD’s swift action has averted potential terrorist attacks and ensured the safety of citizens. The operation demonstrates the department’s commitment to combating terrorism and maintaining law and order in the city.

DIG CTD Asif Ijaz, along with other CTD officers, arrived at Civil Hospital following the incident and confirmed the details of the operation. The CTD’s efforts have resulted in the elimination of a high-profile terrorist, and the city can breathe a sigh of relief.
