Dalit Teenager Assaulted in Uttar Pradesh, Highlighting Caste-Based Violence

A 15-year-old Dalit boy was severely assaulted in Shravasti district, Uttar Pradesh, on July 10, 2024. Three upper-caste youths beat the boy and forced him to drink urine after he asked for payment for his work. The assailants were arrested but have not been presented in court.

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of caste-based violence in India. According to government records, Uttar Pradesh leads in reported crimes against Dalits with 15,368 cases. The National Crime Report states that 57,000 violent incidents against Dalits were reported in 2022.
