In a meeting with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab leadership, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his concern over the inability of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to run the government effectively. The PPP leaders from Punjab raised reservations about the lack of cooperation from the federal and provincial governments, citing issues in their constituencies that need to be addressed.
President Zardari assured the leaders that he would resolve the issues and take charge of the situation, stating, “The PML-N is unable to run the government. I have returned to the ground myself, and uplift works will be carried out from Islamabad to Lahore.” He emphasized that the PPP knows how to form governments and overthrow them, but encouraged his party members to resolve issues through dialogue and cooperation.
Earlier, Ali Haider Gilani, a PPP leader, criticized the Punjab government for dismantling the South Punjab Secretariat and removing its secretaries. He emphasized that the people of South Punjab should not be treated as subjects and that the region should not be run like a viceroy. Gilani asserted that the people of South Punjab have accepted PPP wholeheartedly, and the party will take charge to address their concerns.
This development indicates a significant shift in the political landscape of Pakistan, with the PPP poised to take a more active role in governance. President Zardari’s statement highlights the party’s confidence in its ability to manage the government and address the concerns of the people.
