Dubai: ( The COW News Digital)- Emirates, the world’s largest airline, welcomed a special delegation of female match officials to its Dubai headquarters ahead of the start of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
The panel comprises 14 umpires and four match referees, representing ten different countries. Emirates is a Global Partner of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
This year’s Women’s Cricket World Cup will be played in India from September 30 to November 2. This event is historic because for the first time, all matches in the 50-over World Cup will be supervised by only women officials.
Welcoming the female officials to Emirates Group Headquarters, Butros Butros, Emirates Executive Vice President, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Brand, said, “As the Official Airline Partner of the ICC, Emirates is proud to support the first all-female team, which will officiate matches at this important tournament. This partnership strengthens the connection with the sport’s fans, as well as promoting gender equality and equal opportunities, both on and off the field.”
Emirates is also part of the ICC 100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme, which aims to provide world-class development opportunities for women in cricket to enable them to take on future leadership roles. Emirates offers women in the programme special discounted fares and facilities, allowing them to travel abroad for training and receive guidance from experienced mentors.
Emirates and the ICC have a partnership spanning over three decades and is considered one of the strongest in the world of sport. The partnership sees the Emirates logo prominently featured on the kits of ICC elite and international umpires and match referees.
Emirates also provides travel support to umpires and referees for major cricket events around the world, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, ICC T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and the ICC World Test Championship Final.
