New York( The COW News Digital) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York and raised Pakistan’s concerns about terrorism being sponsored on its soil. The meeting came shortly after the prime minister’s address to the UN General Assembly and focused on a range of critical regional and global issues.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute, urging that a just and peaceful resolution be found in line with UN Security Council resolutions. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve their right to self-determination,” the prime minister said, calling for renewed international attention to the longstanding issue.

Shehbaz Sharif also brought up India’s alleged violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, expressing Pakistan’s concern over unilateral actions that could destabilize water security in the region. He stressed the need for compliance with international agreements to maintain peace and stability.

The prime minister lauded the UN chief’s role in helping to de-escalate tensions during the recent Pakistan-India conflict. He said, “Your efforts to promote dialogue and peace have been invaluable in reducing regional tensions and preventing further escalation.”

On global issues, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for a ceasefire in Gaza and called for a clear pathway to the establishment of a Palestinian state. “Peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through justice for the Palestinian people,” he emphasized.

He further underlined Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism, stating that the UN must remain central in addressing global challenges, from conflict resolution to climate change.

The prime minister also raised Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate disasters and urged the international community to provide additional financing for countries on the frontline of climate change. He thanked the UN for acknowledging Pakistan’s efforts during last year’s catastrophic floods, which devastated large parts of the country.

Shehbaz Sharif concluded by affirming that Pakistan will continue to work closely with the UN to strengthen peace, security, and sustainable development worldwide. The meeting was described as constructive, with both sides agreeing to maintain close engagement on shared concerns.
