Washington( The COW New Digital)The United States has issued a major health advisory regarding the use of Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pregnant women, following concerns about potential risks to newborns. President Donald Trump, in a public statement, warned that the popular over-the-counter medication could increase the likelihood of autism in children when used during pregnancy.

“The FDA will strongly advise doctors to limit Tylenol use among expectant mothers unless absolutely necessary,” Trump said. “This medication is not considered safe for routine use during pregnancy, and caution is highly recommended.”

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will issue guidelines instructing medical professionals to avoid prescribing Tylenol to pregnant women unless there is a compelling medical reason. The move comes after a series of studies suggested a correlation between prolonged acetaminophen exposure during pregnancy and developmental risks in children, particularly related to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.

Health officials, including U.S. Health Secretary Robert Kennedy, stated that the advisory will also include new safety labeling on Tylenol packaging to alert consumers. “Clear labeling will help raise awareness among expectant mothers and their families, so they can make informed decisions regarding medication use during pregnancy,” Kennedy said.

Acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, is widely used for the treatment of fever and pain. In the United States, it is one of the most frequently consumed medications, and in many countries, including Pakistan, it is available over the counter under various brand names. Experts warn that the easy availability of Tylenol may lead to unintentional overuse, making public guidance especially important.

Medical professionals are urging pregnant women to consult their doctors before taking any medication and to consider alternative methods for managing mild pain or fever. Healthcare authorities emphasize that while occasional use under medical supervision may be necessary, routine or prolonged use should be avoided during pregnancy.

The advisory highlights ongoing concerns about maternal health and child development, stressing that public awareness and careful medical guidance are key to minimizing risks. The FDA and health authorities are expected to release detailed guidelines and recommendations in the coming weeks.
