Heavy rains raise water levels in Punjab flood zones

LAHORE: ( The COW News Digital) – Several parts of Punjab and Peshawar received downpours on Saturday night, making the situation bad to worse, particularly for the localities already hit by floodwaters.

With this torrential rainfalls, water level has increased in flood-hit areas, creating chaos and unrest among the people who have been evacuated from flood-hit areas. This rain has multiplied their sufferings as they are taking sheltering in tents, leaving themselves vulnerable to diseases.

They are already facing shortage of clean drinking water, food and washrooms.

The Punjab cities receiving rains on late Saturday night include Faisalabad, Pattoki, Jaranwala, Lahore, Minchinabad and several other localities of the province.

Peshawar and its outskirts received heavy rains, which triggered urban flooding. Rainwater filled streams, canals and nullahs, sending the civic agencies on its toes.

Heavy rains in Lahore and other cities of Punjab badly affected power supply system as people were left without electricity.

Many localities of Lahore came under water after heavy rains on late Saturday night. Low-lying areas as usual remained under water, filling roads and houses.
