Upper Dir( The COW News Digital)A major counter-terrorism operation was carried out in Upper Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where five militants were killed, while one civilian lost his life and seven police personnel sustained injuries, officials confirmed.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), district police, Rapid Response Force (RRF), and Elite Force following actionable intelligence about militant presence in the region. According to police sources, the clashes erupted in Dobando, Barikot, Salam Kot, and Attandra, areas known for recent militant activity.
District Police Officer Upper Dir, Syed Muhammad Bilal, led the operation, which was described as “well-coordinated and strategically planned.” Security forces reportedly surrounded the militants from multiple directions to prevent their escape and secure the civilian population.
Police teams, equipped with advanced weapons and modern technology, were deployed as part of the mission. Authorities confirmed that a command-and-control center had been set up to oversee the operation and ensure real-time coordination between ground forces.
During the early hours of the operation, a heavy exchange of fire took place near Salam Kot, resulting in the deaths of five militants. One of the bodies has been recovered, while search operations continue to locate the remaining slain fighters.
Tragically, one local civilian was caught in the crossfire and killed, while seven constables sustained injuries. The wounded officers were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where medical staff confirmed that their condition was stable and out of danger.
Local communities have expressed strong support for the security forces, with residents actively cooperating and assisting in intelligence sharing. Police said checkpoints have been established at key routes to cut off militant movements and to prevent further infiltration.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, praised the bravery and resilience of the police officers involved. “Our officers stand ready to sacrifice their lives for the safety of the homeland. Their courage and iron resolve will always defeat the malicious designs of terrorists. We are proud of our heroes,” he stated in his official message.
The operation is still ongoing, with authorities determined to clear Upper Dir of militant presence and restore lasting peace to the region.
