The 44-year-old man had unknowingly carried the foreign object since he was attacked nearly a decade ago.
According to international media reports, the man had sustained multiple stab wounds during a violent altercation eight years earlier, suffering injuries to his face, back, chest, and abdomen. At the time, he received only basic first aid and stitches due to limited medical facilities in his area. With no access to X-ray or CT scans, the embedded knife went undetected.
For years, the man lived with discomfort, often experiencing chest pain and a stabbing sensation. However, he never displayed major symptoms such as fever, persistent cough, or breathing difficulties, which made the hidden object even harder to diagnose.
Recently, his condition worsened when fluid began leaking from the right side of his chest. Alarmed, he sought medical attention, and doctors ordered an X-ray. To their shock, the imaging revealed a large knife blade embedded deep inside his chest, penetrating his right shoulder bone and resting within his thoracic cavity.
Remarkably, the blade had not punctured any vital organs. Experts explained that the man’s body had formed a fibrous capsule around the foreign object, isolating it and preventing immediate, life-threatening damage. However, this natural defense mechanism also masked the danger and led to a chronic infection over the years.
Doctors immediately decided to operate. A delicate surgical procedure was carried out, and the knife was carefully removed. Surgeons expressed astonishment at how the patient had managed to survive for so long without catastrophic complications.
“This is one of the rarest cases in medical history,” doctors said. “The fact that the knife remained lodged for eight years without killing him is nothing short of a miracle.”
