Peshawar ( The COW News Digital)The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has released a detailed report on the devastating toll of monsoon rains and flash floods across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), confirming 341 deaths and 178 injuries in multiple districts.
According to PDMA, the fatalities include 292 men, 28 women, and 21 children, while the injured comprise 144 men, 24 women, and 10 children. The worst-hit district is Buner, where a staggering 222 deaths have been reported. Other severely affected districts include Swat, Bajaur, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Battagram, and Swabi.
The floods and landslides have also destroyed 139 houses completely and caused partial damage to 281 others, bringing the total number of affected households to over 420. In Swabi alone, 11 people were killed and 20 injured after flash floods swept through the area.
In response, PDMA has dispatched 89 relief trucks carrying tents, mattresses, bedding, tarpaulins, kitchen kits, mosquito nets, and generators to the flood-hit areas. Additionally, PKR 800 million in emergency funds have been released for affected districts, with PKR 500 million allocated to Buner alone.
At a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, officials reviewed rescue and relief efforts. The Chief Minister directed district administrations to accelerate compensation payments to families of victims and ensure a transparent mechanism for assessing property losses using NADRA-verified data. He emphasized that cash assistance should replace ready-made food supplies to allow survivors to address their own urgent needs.
Authorities confirmed that 23,000 ready-to-eat meals and thousands of non-food items have already been distributed. Relief teams have delivered 2,860 tents, 6,100 mattresses, 2,700 hygiene kits, 4,300 kitchen items, 3,100 tarpaulins, 7,400 mosquito nets, 6,800 blankets, and 500 gas cylinders. Mobile hospitals and medical units have been dispatched to Buner, while dewatering pumps are being used to clear submerged residential areas.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 reported that more than 5,000 people have been safely evacuated from flood-hit zones. In Nowshera, however, tragedy struck when the roof of a house collapsed during heavy rainfall, killing a young couple.
The PDMA has urged citizens to stay alert and report emergencies via its 1700 helpline, stressing that its Emergency Operations Center remains fully operational.
The Chief Minister reiterated that relief and rehabilitation remain the government’s top priority, assuring that all available resources will be deployed to support flood victims and restore normalcy in the province.
