Rome ( The COW News Digital)In a powerful display of solidarity with the people of Palestine, members of Italy’s Five Star Movement wore clothing in the colors of the Palestinian flag during a session of the Italian Parliament.

The symbolic protest comes amidst ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, which have killed more than 150 Palestinians in the last 24 hours, including 90 who were reportedly waiting for humanitarian aid. The move by the Italian lawmakers is part of a growing international wave of outrage and sympathy for Palestinians caught in the escalating violence.

During the parliamentary session, the Five Star Movement legislators refrained from waving a physical Palestinian flag, stating:
“Today, we are not waving this flag because you would take it away from us. Instead, we wear it, as it is no longer just the flag of Palestine—it is now a global symbol of resistance and humanity.”

Wearing scarves, sashes, and garments in black, white, red, and green, the lawmakers silently made their point while seated in the chamber. Their actions were met with mixed reactions from fellow parliamentarians—some of whom applauded the gesture, while others viewed it as unnecessarily provocative.

A spokesperson for the party said, “We can no longer remain silent in the face of this humanitarian catastrophe. What’s happening in Gaza is not just a geopolitical conflict—it’s a human tragedy that demands moral clarity and collective action.”

The demonstration occurred as the world reacts to the recent spike in violence in Gaza, where Israeli military strikes have targeted aid routes, health centers, and civilian neighborhoods. According to international aid agencies, Gaza is on the verge of total humanitarian collapse, with acute food shortages and over 28,000 cases of severe child malnutrition reported.

This symbolic protest in the heart of a Western European parliament underscores a growing sentiment across the continent, particularly among younger politicians and civil society groups, demanding stronger action from global powers to halt the violence and push for a lasting solution.

As the death toll rises, international voices like those of Italy’s Five Star Movement are becoming louder, aiming to pressure their own governments and international bodies to take tangible steps toward protecting Palestinian lives.
