Islamabad( The COW News Digital )Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has affirmed Pakistan’s full support for Iran’s right to pursue nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, during a joint press conference with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.

Welcoming President Pezeshkian on his first official visit to Pakistan, PM Sharif emphasized the close cultural, religious, and geographical bonds shared between the two neighboring nations. “Iran has the legitimate right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful uses, and Pakistan stands by its side in this regard,” the premier stated.

The joint press conference came after a high-level meeting between the two leaders, where they discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, trade, and cooperation in various sectors. PM Sharif disclosed that both countries had signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), with a target of expanding bilateral trade to $10 billion.

Touching on regional tensions, the Prime Minister condemned Israel’s recent unprovoked aggression against Iran in June, terming it a violation of international norms. “Pakistan and its people strongly condemned the Israeli attack. We believe in peace, sovereignty, and mutual respect among nations,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Iran, calling for timely transformation of MoUs into formal agreements. “Friendship isn’t proven in good times; true friends stand together in difficult moments,” he said, underscoring Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its regional ally.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sharif received President Pezeshkian with a ceremonial welcome at the Prime Minister’s House. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings, followed by a guard of honor and national anthems of both countries.

The Iranian President also planted a sapling in the lawns of the Prime Minister’s House as a symbol of friendship and sustainability. A special prayer was offered for the prosperity and unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Several key ministers, including Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and others, were introduced to the Iranian delegation. The two sides also held delegation-level talks, focusing on enhancing mutual cooperation, regional connectivity, and diplomatic ties.

The visit is seen as a step forward in strengthening Islamabad-Tehran relations amid growing global challenges and regional realignments.
