Peshawar( The COW News Digital)Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged the country’s powerful institutions to play their role in de-escalating the ongoing political tensions, warning that the current situation is unsustainable for Pakistan’s democratic future.
Speaking at a public gathering in Buner as part of PTI’s August 5 protest movement, Barrister Gohar said the aftermath of the May 9 incidents has triggered a wave of repression and unrest across the nation. “Our members have been targeted with politically motivated cases, sentenced, and disqualified,” he said.
He highlighted that lawmakers from both national and provincial assemblies, as well as PTI senators, are being disqualified, which only deepens the political crisis. “This is not sustainable,” Gohar asserted. “Our people have paid a heavy price, now it’s time for the establishment to act responsibly and play its role in restoring political stability.”
He warned that continued legal persecution of PTI leaders and workers, including fresh cases and disqualifications, will only further fuel public anger. “When political tensions rise, democracy is endangered,” he said, calling on the establishment to avoid further escalations and help the nation find a political solution.
Referring to the imprisoned PTI founder, Barrister Gohar said public sentiment is shifting. “Earlier, people would ask when his case would be heard. Now, the question on everyone’s lips is: when will he be released? Until he is freed, the demand for his release will echo from all directions.”
Gohar appealed for rationality and compassion, saying, “It’s time to act wisely — ease the pressure, stop the new cases and disqualifications, and release our founder. Otherwise, this environment of tension will only breed more unrest, mistrust in institutions, and potential instability.”
He stressed that Pakistan cannot bear the weight of prolonged political confrontation and urged all stakeholders to come forward to de-escalate the situation. “Let us work together to end this cycle of conflict so the country can focus on progress and development,” he concluded.
