New Delhi( The COW News Digital) A domestic IndiGo Airlines flight bound for Imphal was forced to return to New Delhi due to a mid-air technical malfunction, marking the second such incident involving the carrier in just two days.

According to India’s ANI News Agency, IndiGo Flight 6E 5118, which had departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport en route to Imphal, experienced a technical issue shortly after takeoff. As a precautionary measure, the flight crew opted to turn the aircraft around and make an emergency landing back in Delhi.

The airline confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and no injuries were reported. “Following standard operating procedures, a full inspection of the aircraft was carried out,” said an IndiGo spokesperson. “After ensuring all parameters were within safety limits, the aircraft resumed its journey to Imphal with minimal delay.”

The airline, however, did not disclose specific details regarding the nature of the technical malfunction.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers,” the statement added. “The safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft remains our highest priority.”

This incident comes just a day after another IndiGo flight, traveling from Delhi to Goa, was diverted to Mumbai due to a similar mid-air technical fault. While no passengers were harmed in either case, the back-to-back glitches have raised concerns about maintenance and operational reliability across the airline’s fleet.

Aviation analysts note that while emergency landings are not uncommon and often precautionary, repeated technical issues in a short span of time can damage public confidence and warrant stricter regulatory oversight.

Passengers on the affected flight were offered assistance during the delay, including refreshments and rebooking support if necessary. Most travelers reportedly remained calm and cooperative throughout the incident.

This latest episode adds to a growing list of mid-air technical snags involving Indian carriers in recent months, drawing renewed attention to aircraft safety and preventive maintenance practices.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident but is expected to conduct an internal review.
