ISLAMABAD( The COW News Digital)Pakistan strongly condemned Israel’s continued military aggression in Syria during a high-level United Nations Security Council briefing, calling the strikes irresponsible, destabilizing, and a direct violation of Syrian sovereignty.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN and current President of the Security Council, Ambassador Munir Akram (referred to in the Urdu source as Asim Iftikhar Ahmed), delivered a national statement highlighting the need for global accountability in response to repeated Israeli violations.
“Israel’s unchecked actions across Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Yemen violate fundamental principles of international law, including sovereignty, non-intervention, and the prohibition of force under Article 2(4) of the UN Charter,” the ambassador said. “This impunity must end.”
He noted that the attacks come at a particularly sensitive moment for Syria, which is undergoing a fragile but hopeful phase of recovery after more than a decade of conflict. The ambassador emphasized that Syria needs solidarity and support, not further aggression and destruction.
The Pakistani envoy stressed that the Israeli strikes weaken national institutions, obstruct reconstruction efforts, and disrupt ongoing reconciliation processes. “Israel’s repeated violations are nothing less than foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs,” he added.
Referring to UNSC Resolution 2254, which outlines the political roadmap for Syria, the ambassador urged the international community to support Syria’s stabilization efforts. He cited signs of economic relief following the easing of sanctions, diplomatic re-engagement, and renewed efforts by Syrian leadership to build peaceful relations in the region.
“The path to sustainable peace lies in fostering internal harmony and embracing Syria’s diverse cultural fabric,” he said. “Now is the time to stand with Syria in its efforts toward reconstruction and national reconciliation.”
He further warned that weakening Syria through external aggression creates a dangerous security vacuum that could allow extremist groups to re-emerge, posing threats not only to Syria but to regional and global peace.
Calling on UN member states, he stated: “Israel’s illegal actions ultimately harm itself by fueling the very instability it claims to prevent.”
Pakistan concluded its statement with a call for unified international action to uphold the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity and to promote a just and lasting peace in the region.
“Pakistan stands in full solidarity with the Syrian people at this critical juncture,” the ambassador declared.
