Washington, D.C( The COW News Digital)Former U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk’s recent announcement of forming a new political party, calling it “ridiculous” and “unnecessary.”

Speaking to reporters in New Jersey on Sunday, Trump reacted to Musk’s declaration of the “America Party”, a third political force aimed at restoring freedoms and reshaping U.S. governance. Trump, however, waved off the initiative, stating, “I think starting a third party is a ridiculous idea. It will only create more confusion.”

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), made headlines on Saturday after posting on his social media platform: “Today, the America Party is born to return your freedoms.” The announcement drew significant media attention, given Musk’s growing influence in American political discourse.

Trump’s reaction marks a notable escalation in tensions between the two once-allied figures. During Trump’s presidency, Musk was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—a short-lived advisory position focused on streamlining federal operations. However, Musk later resigned and their relationship soured.

When asked further, Trump said, “If he wants to form a third party, he can enjoy that journey. But as far as I’m concerned, it’s pointless and distracts from the real goal—winning back America.”

The former president also addressed several geopolitical topics during the press briefing. He mentioned that his team may have a good chance to broker a deal with Hamas this week and hinted at discussions involving Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian authorities regarding a potential long-term peace initiative.

In addition, Trump announced he may visit flood-hit Texas on Friday to assess the disaster firsthand and meet with affected families.

Musk’s move has sparked a divided reaction across political circles. Supporters hail the America Party as a fresh alternative to the entrenched two-party system, while critics—like Trump—believe it will splinter conservative votes and benefit the opposition.

Political analysts suggest that while Musk’s tech-backed movement may appeal to disillusioned voters, it faces steep challenges in gaining electoral traction within America’s rigid political framework.

As the 2026 midterms approach, the brewing rivalry between Trump and Musk could redefine not just the GOP’s dynamics but the broader trajectory of American politics.
