KARACHI: ( The COW News Digital)– In yet another alarming development, a 7-storey residential building in Karachi’s Lyari Agra Taj area is on the verge of collapse, with visible cracks spreading across its structure, sparking fears of another imminent tragedy, reported TCND Sunday.
The building, which houses 12 residential units and is still home to around 10 families, was declared “uninhabitable” in April this year. However, according to area residents, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and district administration have failed to take action or evacuate the building, leaving occupants in grave danger.
The building was constructed without official approval, residents allege, and the builder recently tried to conceal its deteriorating condition with a fresh coat of paint rather than addressing the structural damage.
This comes just days after a 5-storey building in Lyari’s Baghdadi area collapsed, claiming 23 lives, and follows another frightening incident where five roofs caved in at a 7-storey building in Kharadar.
Locals are calling the situation a ticking time bomb, blaming official apathy, regulatory failure, and unapproved construction practices for putting lives at risk. The absence of emergency measures and delayed evacuations raise serious questions about the city’s readiness to prevent further loss of life
