Washington( The COW News Digital) U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Israel has agreed to the terms of a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, a major diplomatic development aimed at de-escalating one of the longest-running and deadliest conflicts in the region.

Taking to his social media platform, Trump stated, “My representatives held a long and productive meeting with Israeli officials today. Israel has agreed in principle to the conditions necessary to finalize a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.” He added that Qatar and Egypt will soon present the final proposal to all involved parties.

Trump emphasized that the ceasefire window will be used to work with all stakeholders to bring about a permanent end to the conflict. He expressed hope that Hamas would accept the terms, warning that “if they don’t, the situation will only get worse.”

The announcement follows growing international pressure for an end to hostilities, with more than 21 months of warfare causing unprecedented destruction in Gaza and increasing domestic unrest in Israel. Trump also hinted during a recent press interaction that a ceasefire agreement could be reached “as early as next week.”

In response to a journalist’s question about whether a truce could be in place before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled visit to the White House on July 7, Trump said, “We are working toward that. We want a ceasefire. We want Hamas to release the remaining hostages. And I believe that’s about to happen.”

According to sources close to the negotiation process, the proposed deal involves halting all combat operations for 60 days, during which international mediators will facilitate further talks aimed at a more permanent solution. The agreement is also expected to include provisions for the release of hostages, humanitarian aid access, and security arrangements in both Gaza and southern Israel.

Earlier reports from Israeli media claimed that a broader post-war framework could see Gaza’s administration handed over to a coalition of four Arab countries under international supervision — although this has not been officially confirmed.

President Trump’s assertive diplomatic push marks a notable shift in U.S. engagement with the conflict, especially as tensions remain high ahead of Netanyahu’s Washington visit. The coming days will be critical in determining whether this ceasefire plan holds or collapses under political and military pressures.
