Karachi( The COW News Digital )Clouds continued to dominate the skies over Karachi on Saturday as light to moderate rain showers were reported in several parts of the city, bringing a refreshing change to the weather. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that this spell of rain is likely to continue until June 29 under the influence of a western weather system.
Rainfall began early in the morning in various neighborhoods, including I.I. Chundrigar Road, Old City Area, Malir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Safora Goth, Qayyumabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Surjani Town, and North Karachi. Initially starting as light drizzle, the rain intensified as the day progressed, adding a pleasant chill to the summer heat.
Thursday night’s rainfall had already transformed the weather across Karachi, leading to a relatively cooler and pleasant Friday. That trend continued into Saturday, with scattered showers keeping temperatures mild and air quality refreshed.
According to the Meteorological Department, the city will remain under a thick cloud cover throughout the day. Weather experts attribute the current system to the entry of westerly winds that are expected to sustain the rainy conditions until Sunday. Intermittent showers accompanied by thunder and lightning are expected during the afternoon and evening hours.
As of Saturday afternoon, the city recorded a temperature of 28°C. However, due to humidity and atmospheric conditions, the heat index made it feel closer to 35°C. The maximum temperature for the day is forecasted to reach around 31°C.
Winds are blowing from the northeast at a speed of approximately 10 kilometers per hour. Humidity levels remain high, hovering around 90%, contributing to the intensity of the perceived temperature despite the rain.
The current rainfall has not only brought temporary relief from the persistent heat but also raised hopes for a greener season ahead. However, residents are urged to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas that may experience waterlogging or traffic disruptions.
Authorities have been advised to ensure the readiness of municipal services in case of further rain-related challenges.
