Karachi Factory Fire Brought Under Control After Over 24 Hours
KARACHI:(The COW News Digital) – The massive fire that broke out in the Landhi Export Processing Zone in the early hours of Sunday has finally been brought under control, Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan confirmed on Monday.
While the fire has largely been extinguished, officials reported that minor flames still persist in isolated parts of the affected factories. Firefighting teams remain on site to fully douse the remaining hotspots.
The blaze, which erupted around 3 AM on Sunday, engulfed multiple factories manufacturing cosmetics and garments. No casualties have been reported, according to fire brigade officials.
The three-storey factory building sustained severe structural damage, leading authorities to declare it hazardous. As part of the firefighting efforts, the front walls of the building are being demolished to safely access and extinguish lingering flames.
Late Sunday night, two excavators were deployed to assist in breaking through the damaged structure. Demolition work facilitated targeted firefighting operations within the premises.
Firefighters from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Rescue 1122 have been actively involved in operations since the blaze erupted. To support the extensive effort, assistance was also sought from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, which imposed an emergency on nearby hydrants to ensure continuous water supply.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire. An investigation is expected to be launched once the site is declared safe.
