With the soul-stirring chants of “Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk”, the annual pilgrimage of Hajj 1446 officially began today on the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah. Over two million pilgrims from across the globe, including Pakistan, have started their sacred journey by moving toward Mina — home to the world’s largest tent city.
On the first day of Hajj, worshippers will spend the day in prayer, devotion, and reflection at Mina before heading to Arafat tomorrow for the pivotal ritual of Wuquf-e-Arafat. Imam Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid is expected to deliver the Hajj sermon from Masjid Namirah and lead the combined Dhuhr and Asr prayers.
To ensure the safety and health of pilgrims, Saudi authorities have deployed over 70,000 personnel, including 40,000 military and 30,000 police officers. Medical facilities like field hospitals, dispensaries, and temporary clinics have also been set up in Mina, Muzdalifah, and Arafat. Pakistan’s Hajj Mission has arranged special medical services for its citizens.
Additionally, 8 air ambulances are on standby, and Royal Saudi Forces are conducting aerial surveillance to maintain order. Strict measures are in place against unauthorized pilgrims; over 270,000 people have been turned away from entering Makkah without permits. Violators now face hefty fines of up to 100,000 riyals, jail time, and deportation.
Saudi citizens involved in illegally transporting foreigners into the holy city are also facing legal consequences. The Hajj 1446 pilgrimage marks not only a religious duty but also a logistical operation of immense scale and spiritual significance.
