President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need to foster stronger ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stating that both nations must work towards reconciliation and mutual progress.
Speaking at a reception held in honor of the Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket teams, President Zardari highlighted the unifying role of sports and praised both teams for their performances during the recent cricket series.
He noted that the Bangladesh team, currently touring as ambassadors of their country, displayed commendable sportsmanship and skill, while the Pakistani side also performed admirably.
“I belong to a generation that witnessed the painful separation of our nations,” the President remarked. “But today’s youth cannot truly grasp that pain—we must collectively work to heal it.”
Zardari acknowledged Bangladesh’s progress and economic growth, stating that the Bengali nation has long been among the most dynamic in the region. “We must cooperate for the welfare of our people. Joint steps are needed to ensure prosperity on both sides,” he added.
He further said that Dhaka, like Pakistan, is rich in resources and potential, and both countries can benefit immensely from enhanced collaboration. He encouraged the youth to engage in people-to-people exchanges, stressing that sports can serve as a vital bridge in building stronger regional ties.
