Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has come under intense pressure from right-wing extremists in India after expressing gratitude over the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The actor was forced to delete his tweet following an onslaught of online abuse and threats.

In his now-deleted post, Salman Khan had written, “Thank God for the ceasefire,” a sentiment that immediately drew backlash from radical Hindutva elements on social media. The actor was subjected to heavy trolling, abusive comments, and even death threats for what many deemed an act of “disloyalty” in the current hyper-nationalistic climate.

Sources close to Khan revealed that the actor deleted the tweet following a coordinated campaign of harassment and threats that escalated rapidly, putting his safety and public image at risk.

This is not the first time Indian celebrities—particularly Muslims—have faced intimidation for expressing moderate or peaceful viewpoints. In recent years, actors like Swara Bhasker and others have also been targeted for criticizing government policies or speaking in favor of communal harmony.

Observers say that in today’s India, no sector is immune to the influence of right-wing extremist forces, with Muslim artists bearing the brunt of rising intolerance and shrinking space for dissent.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about the state of free speech and civil liberties in India, particularly for minorities and those who deviate from the dominant nationalist narrative.
