Islamabad: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that a comprehensive strategy has been devised to crack down on human traffickers, and a strict operation will commence soon.
Speaking to the media at the inauguration of a passport office at Lahore’s NADRA Center, Naqvi highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling illegal immigration. He stated that the Shimla Pahari NADRA office, which previously experienced overcrowding, has significantly improved, and efforts are underway to modernize all NADRA centers nationwide.
Strengthening Immigration Controls
Addressing concerns about delayed passport processing, Naqvi emphasized the need for a dedicated Passport Authority, which he has already discussed with the Prime Minister. He claimed that passport and NADRA services are now operating without delays.
Regarding customs and FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) officers harassing citizens, Naqvi hinted at major reforms within the FIA in the coming months. He also stressed the importance of strict immigration checks to curb illegal travel via dangerous sea routes, acknowledging that Gujrat and Faisalabad divisions are the primary regions from where people attempt unauthorized travel abroad.
Action Against Human Smuggling Networks
Naqvi reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on human trafficking, stating:
“We take pride when Pakistanis legally move abroad for work or study, but those tarnishing the country’s image through illegal means will face severe consequences.”
While he admitted that completely eradicating agent mafias may not be possible, he assured that a well-structured crackdown is imminent.
Pakistan-US Relations & Champions Trophy Security
Speaking about his recent visit to the United States, Naqvi expressed optimism, stating that the trip would yield positive outcomes for Pakistan’s international relations.
When asked about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest call during the upcoming Champions Trophy matches in Lahore, he said the government would first request them to refrain from disrupting the event. However, with a meaningful smile, he hinted at taking firm measures if necessary.
