An American woman, Onija Andrew Robbins, who came to Karachi for love but was deceived, has now become a vocal critic of the city’s deteriorating state. During a press conference with social activist Ramzan Chhipa, she strongly criticized the Sindh government and demanded financial compensation.
Onija requested $100,000 from the government, stating that she needed $20,000 for herself and the remaining amount for the city’s reconstruction. She lamented Karachi’s poor infrastructure, calling the city “filthy” and in dire need of repairs. She also expressed her desire to travel to Dubai with her husband.
The American woman urged authorities to rebuild Karachi, improve its roads, and introduce new public transport services. Currently residing at Ramzan Chhipa’s welfare organization, she did not hold back in her remarks, even scolding Chhipa during the press conference, saying, “You talk too much, just be quiet.”
In response, Ramzan Chhipa called upon the young man who allegedly deceived Onija and his family to come forward and resolve the matter. He also expressed concern about her mental state, stating that her statements often changed within minutes.
Onija’s ordeal began when she fell in love with 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon from Karachi’s Garden area through social media. A mother of two, she arrived in Karachi on October 11, hoping to marry him. However, Nidal’s family refused the marriage, leaving her stranded.
With her visa expiring and her return ticket invalid, she was eventually handed over to airport police. A local NGO arranged her return to the U.S., but she refused to leave and instead camped outside Nidal’s house, demanding justice.
