Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that electricity prices will see a significant reduction in the next few months. While addressing an event in Islamabad, he expressed hope that interest rates would be lowered further today, and if possible, he would reduce the tax rate by 15%, though he acknowledged constraints due to the IMF agreement.
The Prime Minister emphasized that development cannot take place until electricity becomes affordable, adding that efforts are being made around the clock to reduce electricity prices. He assured the public that substantial decreases in electricity costs would be implemented in the near future.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted measures to cut government spending, stating that the Public Works Department, once a source of corruption, has been shut down. He revealed plans to privatize Pakistan’s national airline through a transparent auction process, confident that the private sector is capable of acquiring it.
Reassuring investors, the Prime Minister stated that the government is working to eliminate obstacles to investment, with an increase in national exports and remittances. He promised that Pakistan would soon be on its feet economically.
