Speaking at a gathering in Islamabad, Bilawal Bhutto expressed concern that current politics was no longer focused on addressing the issues of the people. He urged the government to make decisions in consultation with elected representatives, asserting that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been at the forefront of fighting for labor rights for three generations. He also congratulated the labor unions on their recent successes.
“The Constitution and the system of this country were provided by the PPP, and the rights granted to laborers by the party have been recognized worldwide,” said Bilawal.
Reflecting on the party’s legacy, he recalled how his mother, the late Benazir Bhutto, had fought against dictators with the support of the labor community. He reiterated that the PPP has always been a strong advocate for labor, contributing to wage and pension increases for workers. He argued that economic growth would be achieved alongside the development of labor.
Bilawal Bhutto also stressed the importance of democracy, stating that no system can function without the will of the people. “Whether elections are held or not, no government—be it a president, prime minister, king, or emir—can govern without the consent of the people,” he remarked.
Concluding his address, Bilawal reaffirmed that PPP’s policies are shaped by the desires and aspirations of the people. He warned that when rulers deviate from the will of the public, the entire system collapses, citing historical examples of regimes that faltered despite their initial success.
