ISLAMABAD: Faisal Chaudhry, the lawyer for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, revealed that Imran Khan knows who is the mastermind behind the events of May 9.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Faisal Chaudhry criticized the ongoing trial, stating that both witnesses and defendants are confused about the proceedings, which he argued do not constitute a fair trial. He highlighted that despite security risks, the case had not been postponed after a shooting incident outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) that resulted in one death. He also pointed out that a mobile phone, allegedly recovered from a May 9 suspect, was presented in court fully charged.

Chaudhry further questioned the credibility of the case, stating that there were no official witnesses and that the testimonies from unofficial witnesses were inconsistent. One claimed to have been hiding under a table at Zaman Park, while another said they had attended a core committee meeting in Chakri while disguised.

The lawyer announced that PTI had filed a petition for Imran Khan’s acquittal. He also condemned the refusal to issue production orders for Senator Chaudhry Ijaz and said that if the parliament does not take notice of this, it would show that there is no democracy, constitution, or rule of law in the country.

Chaudhry accused the courts, police, and FIA of being undermined and claimed that it seemed as if the country was being governed by the orders of a dictator, with no respect for the law or elected representatives. He further criticized the 26th constitutional amendment, claiming it had subordinated the judiciary and led to judicial appointments being politically influenced.

He also criticized judges involved in Imran Khan’s conviction in a false case, stating that these judges were being appointed to the Islamabad High Court. Chaudhry welcomed statements from the Ministry of Defence’s lawyer but reiterated that there was no legal basis for military trials of civilians, as outlined by both national and international law.

Chaudhry revealed that Imran Khan knows the identity of the mastermind behind the May 9 events, claiming it was the person who orchestrated Khan’s abduction and stole CCTV footage. He described the May 9 incident as a “false flag operation” with politically selective targeting.

The PTI lawyer called for an independent judicial commission to investigate the incidents of November 26 and May 9, expressing confusion over the government’s opposition to such an inquiry, suggesting that the government might be involved.

Finally, Faisal Chaudhry mentioned that PTI had directed Asad Qaiser and Omar Ayub to reach out to opposition parties for discussions regarding the political situation and negotiations. He stated that the message had been given not to address the opposition’s internal matters or leaders directly. The goal, according to Chaudhry, is to restore democracy, constitutional rule, and fundamental human rights in the country.
