Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Advisor Rejects Federal Government’s Claim of Increase in Remittances

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Advisor, Muzammil Aslam, has stated that remittances declined by $5 billion in the first year of the Shahbaz government. He further added that during this period, 2 million people left the country.

Rejecting the federal government’s claim of an increase in remittances, Aslam pointed out that in the last month of the previous government’s tenure, $3.12 billion in remittances were recorded. In contrast, in 2022, remittances totaled $31.3 billion. However, under Shahbaz’s government, remittances saw a $5 billion decrease in just one year.

Aslam emphasized that the rise in emigration is also a contributing factor, as 2 million people, including educated individuals, have left the country in search of better opportunities abroad. He questioned the Prime Minister’s congratulatory message regarding the $3 billion in remittances, wondering what exactly the nation was being congratulated for.

He also suggested that without factoring in the income of the 2 million people leaving the country, remittances might not even reach $2.3 billion.
