ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Mohsin Naqvi, revealed that Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies seized drugs worth $10 billion in over 2,000 operations last year. He emphasized that the crackdown on narcotics would continue with full force to protect the younger generation from the scourge of drug abuse.

During a visit to the headquarters of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in Islamabad, Naqvi stated that individuals involved in the illicit drug trade would not be given any leniency. He stressed the need for immediate and multifaceted measures to curb the growing trend of drug use in the country.

Naqvi announced plans to hold a conference soon to strengthen cooperation with Gulf countries in the fight against narcotics. He said that the heads of anti-narcotics forces from Gulf nations would be invited to the conference.

“This conference will be crucial in developing a joint strategy to combat narcotics,” the minister said, underlining its significance in forging stronger international collaborations.

The interior minister also directed that awareness campaigns against drug use in educational institutions would continue.

Despite limited resources and manpower, Naqvi praised the ANF’s effective actions against the drug mafia across the country.

Earlier, the federal minister was welcomed at the ANF headquarters by Director General Major General Abdul Maeed. During the visit, Naqvi was briefed on the ANF’s performance, operational strategies, and ongoing operations.

Federal Secretary for Interior, Muhammad Khurram Agha, and senior ANF officials were also present at the occasion.
