Gaza ( The COW News Digital )Israeli airstrikes continued to pound the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday, leaving at least 68 more Palestinians dead, according to Arab media sources. The latest wave of bombings has further intensified what many international observers are calling one of the most devastating military campaigns in recent history.
One of the deadliest attacks occurred in the Jabalia refugee camp, where Israeli warplanes reportedly struck a school sheltering displaced civilians. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and devastation, with emergency crews struggling to rescue survivors from the rubble. The attack marks the second time in recent weeks that schools housing refugees have come under Israeli fire.
In addition to Jabalia, other strikes targeted Palestinians waiting for humanitarian aid. Sunday’s toll of 68 fatalities adds to the staggering number of lives lost since the conflict began.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders to residents in 17 densely populated areas of northern Gaza, including Shuja’iyya, Zaytoun, Tuffah, Daraj, Sabra, Jabalia Al-Balad, Jabalia Camp, and Tel Al-Zaatar. Civilians were warned to move immediately toward the Al-Mawasi camp in southern Gaza, or face severe consequences.
In a statement, the Israeli military claimed the evacuation was necessary ahead of a major ground operation in northern Gaza, part of what it called a new “phase” of its campaign. Observers believe the decision comes in the aftermath of Israel’s recent de-escalation with Iran, possibly allowing it to refocus military efforts on Gaza.
Israeli authorities have also hinted at expanding military operations into central Gaza, raising fears of further displacement and casualties. Humanitarian organizations have voiced alarm over the growing crisis, as infrastructure continues to collapse and aid remains dangerously limited.
Since October 7, 2023, over 56,000 Palestinians, including thousands of women and children, have reportedly been killed in Israeli military operations across Gaza. The international community has repeatedly called for a ceasefire, but hopes for peace remain bleak as violence intensifies.
